Remember the Downloads

The Red Meateorite

Remember that you can always download items from the downloads page.  The Red Meateorite is a great example of this.

Open Farm Sunday – Sharing Success

On 22nd September I will be attending a meeting with Open Farm Sunday organisers LEAF to find out what went well and what might be useful to provide for our farmers for next year. Preliminary results suggest that the downloads and packs were useful, but we’d really love any feedback from people that used the packs and could tell us what went well and what might not have worked so well. If you have any feedback, please leave a comment below – it’d be great to hear from you.

No More Packs

We have now run out of packs for Open Farm Sunday. If you ordered a pack, we hope that it has arrived safely. If you are waiting for a pack, please note that the last batch was sent on Thursday, or for larger orders (over 1000 visitors expected) the packs went by courier to arrive on Saturday. If you are still looking for resources for your open day, please take a look at our downloads page.

What’s in the Pack?

This years Open Farm Sunday packs are  ready for distribution.  There will be two packs available one for beef farmers and another for sheep farmers.  The packs will contain master copies of worksheets which you can photocopy for children including colouring in, a fact sheet and a wordsearch.   A selection of posters including cuts charts and posters which explain farming to children will be sent along with recipe booklets for people to take home.  We will start sending the packs out at the end of the week, sign up on the resource pack page if you haven’t already.

Red Meateorite

For your Open Farm Sunday packs we have produced a photocopyable sheet with facts from a booklet produced for ‘meatmatters’.  The sheet has a few facts which you can hand out, but if you are looking for more facts and figures, take a look at the full red meateroite booklet which I have just uploaded to the ‘Downloads’ section of the website.

For similar information take a look at the www.meatmatters.org website

Year Round Support

While this website has been created primarily for Open Farm Sunday 2010,  we realise that you might be running open days throughout the year.  The site will be up and running all year to enable you to get the most out of your open farm days.  So if there is anything that you would like to see, just let us know!

Answering Tricky Questions

On your open farm day you could well have a tricky question to answer.  LEAF advise you to talk only about your farm and yourself.  You do not need to defend the farming community or even your neighbours’ farming methods, just talk about what you do.  If you would like to know a little bit more about things such as climate change however, please take a look at our downloads page where you can find a quick reference guide to climate change or comment on this page and we will do our best to answer you and publish the information should others also require it.

Welcome to the Support Blog

We hope that beefandlambfarmvisits.co.uk is a useful resource for beef and lamb farmers hoping to open their farm to the public.  To that end we have incorporated a blog on which you can ask questions, make reccomendations and give others suggestions about what can be done to get people interested in farming and your farm.  The main page shows a summary of all posts, simply click on the headlines for the full article where you can comment by filling in a few bits of information.  If you have any issues at all with using this website, please let me know and I will try to help you out.
